Estonia football

Estonia gained independence, the national side was initially the worst of the three Baltic sides, suffering losses such as a 7-1 battering to Croatia in the Euro 96 qualification matches. In the 1998 World Cup qualifiers, Estonia caused trouble when a home match against Scotland was called off in after 3 seconds as the team decided not to turn up. The replay in Monaco finished 0-0.

In the Euro 2004 qualification matches, Estonia proved remarkably obdurate with eight points from as many games, only 4 goals scored and 6 allowed in. The 2006 World Cup qualifiers saw further improvement with five victories, 2 draws and 5 defeats. The Estonians started of the Euro 2008 qualification campaign, suffering a staggering six consecutive defeats in the first six matches, and not scoring a goal either!
