When the country was divided into North Yemen and South Yemen prior 1990, 2 national sides existed. After unification, the Yemen national soccer side is believed as the successor of the North Yemen team.
Yemen (or North Yemen) has never took part in the World Cup finals or the Asian Cup. The only appearance by any Yemeni side in the Asian Cup was that by South Yemen in 1976.
