The Source for Everything Soccer

India football

India took part in the 1950 FIFA World Cup as a result of the absence of all of their scheduled opponents. However, they did not occupy their birth in the competition because FIFA demanded all players at the World Cup finals should wear soccer boots. Many of the Indian players refused to follow by this rule and the side was forced to leave the world cup; the team has never since come close to entering the World Cup.

India also finished fourth in the football tournament at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, and won the 1962 Asian Games Gold medal, and reached the last four in the following two Asian Games competitions in what became known as the finest period of Indian football.

More recent successes have been few to the South Asian Football Federation Cup, and the LG Cup won in Vietnam in 2002 under English manager Stephen Constantine.
